3) Step at Dental Camp

Seminar

Training the school teachers for becoming a good instructor.


- A dentists(leader) demonstrated TBI and provided the professional education for training the school teachers.

- Enlightenment to School Management Committee, and Maternal and Child Health Worker were also done.

Tooth Brushing Instruction (TBI)

- Instruction methods and materials:
Picture-story had been shown along with practical tooth brushing demonstration

using Large Model and Tooth brush.

Tooth brushing practice is carried out by children themselves

with small headed tooth brush and paste.
(The head of tooth brush is usually too large to make proper tooth bruhing especially for children.)

Fluorine in toothpaste was expected to be effective for preventing caries disease.

Dental Plaque Disclosing for the Checking

Dental Plaque still on teeth after Primary/First Tooth Brushing.
(Plaque staining by a harmless Red-colored dye)
Children can easily see the areas that they could not brush well by using hand mirror.

The dye is easy removed by additional toothbrushing.

Children can improve their brushing technique.


Oral and Dental Checkup (OC)

-Oral checkup for DMFT, Oral Hygiene Index, and Gingival index was done for children of the target schools.

To make a proposal on how to implement an oral health care

Data regarding oral health care and eating habit was obtained using a questionnaire for children of the target schools.


First Step --->
Dentists were trained about "TBI Project" by instructors.

Dentists demonstrated TBI for the School Teachers in these Seminars.

Second Step --->
Dentists demonstrated TBI for pupils.
A picture-story was shown along with practical demonstration using Model and Tooth brushes.

Pupils tried brushing their teeth with a toothbrush and toothpaste as instructed by dentists.

Final Step --->
Primary Schools Teachers carry out TBI for School Children !
