Toothbrushing and ToothBrushing Instruction
TBI for children
TBI for community people
Tooth brushing practice should be carried out by children themselves at target schools
With Small headed tooth brush and Fluoride paste.
For a good appearance, there are many too big toothbrushes in this country compared with Japan.
We try to use small toothbrushes at JICA project....
However、It is still larger than that for Japanese adults in dental clinic.
Black arrow are toothbrushs for children in Japan.
Red arrow is for the dental clinics in Japan.
This toothbrush was used in the following explanation.
Many of the Bungdish people are Muslims.
(It is unclear whether it is religiously good to include the English commentary of the Qur'arian. )
However, in Chapter 13 of the Qur'aran, there is a description about Siwak ( tooth brushing), and a considerable number of tooth brushings are strictly recommended daily.
Therefore, it seems easy to motivate Muslim people to brush their teeth.
What seems necessary is to learn the right method.
1) BASS
2) STILLMAN'S
3) CHARTER'S
4) MODIFIED BASS
5) (HORIZONTAL) SCRUB
6) FONES' (CIRCULAR)
We must use feasible method/technique for children in our Dental Camp!
We used Scrub method and BASS method mainly.(Please also see Pictures cards belows.)
Scrubbing method/technique is the most feasible method/technique for very young children.
Children 10-15 years can learn the Bass method/technique.
In BASS method/technique(Lower fig.), the filaments and toothbrush were push toward roots of teeth at the angle of 45 degree with small vibratory (forward-and-backward)movement.
In addition, brush is placed vertically with vibratory motion(up-and-down strokes) on the especially Lingual surfaces( un-brushed place) of front teeth.
for practical tooth brushing demonstration with using Large Teeth and Jaw Model and Tooth brush.
The Model for toothbrushing instruction are children of the target schools.
It makes children to get used to our TBI program.
Dental Plaque still on teeth after Primary/First Tooth Brushing.
(Plaque staining liquid contain a harmless Red-colored dye)
Children can easily see the areas that they could not brush well by using hand mirror.
The dye is easy removed by additional toothbrushing.
Children can improve their brushing technique.
Let's try Tooth Brushing Again!.Remove the Plaque !.No Plaque!
in toothpaste was expected to be effective for preventing Dental caries.
Fluoride-containing mouth rinse/mouthwash( effective contained material is NaF. 0.2% for onetime/week 0.05% for onetime/day) and Modified fluoride toothpaste technique are useful for reducing dental caries.
(1) Squeeze out 2 cm long of the toothpaste.(1cm for child)
(2) Two minutes tooth brushing.
(3) Hold the toothpaste around the dentition about half a minute before spitting the toothpaste out.
(4) No post-brushing or rinsing and no eating/drinking for two hours.
But this is not easy for very young children to bear the unaccustomed pungent taste and mint flavor of toothpaste.
(TBI is the Brand-new Experience for some children)
Topical application of fluoride solution cannot be performed by children / parent themselves , We did not include it in this(our first!) project.
These may be challenges for the future.
( Fluoride makes the enamel (the surface of the teeth) strong but it dose not have effect to prevention against periodontal(gum)
disease.)
Dole-out policy have negative repercussions for other programs like maternal and child health project or immunization program.
In order to settle the dispute over the controversial plans( about distribution of Toothbrush and Toothpaste), We gradually reduced the size of toothpaste and ask parents/SMC to purchase Toothbrush and Toothpaste for the health of their children.
Also We scrutinized the market and confirmed good supply of Toothbrush and Toothpaste.
For the handicapped child, it is not easy to polish their tooth by using a convemtional toothbrush, an electric toothbrush may be effective.
However, of course, preparation of one set for one child is impossible.
But we hope to bring at least one or two sets at our dental camp.
So, Inserts any toothbrush type will be prepared,
even the effect is considerably inferior to the( below-mentioned) type using exclusive unique brush.
A toothbrush is inserted in a main part and is fixed.
A cheap product using dry celles.
some Cheap electric toothbrush in Japan. Individual replacement/changeable toothbrush head required.
There are various arguments about electric toothbrushes.
I will not explain in detail here.
In Japan, OralB is sold in large quantities at supermarkets and drug stores, but the replacement rotating brush head is taller than a regular toothbrush.
In addition to purchasing replacement brushheads in Bangladesh, there are battery issues, both dry cell and rechargeable.
