New JICA Project
Overview of this 2nd JICA project
(From the local general manager)
As we know there are some common risk factors for oral diseases and heart attack, Stroke , Diabetes, Cancer etc.
Those are bad food habits, smoking, tobacco chewing habit and stress. So, .....
1. This time our program is not only to improve the oral health but also to reduce the risk of Heart attack, Stroke, Cancer, Diabetes etc.
As these Non-Communicable diseases are increasing highly in our country.
2. Our direct target people are

b) poor and less educated people who are residing in villages and tea-garden workers.

3. Our indirect target people are

b) root level health care providers who are engaged in immunization programs,
community health programs and midwifery in villages under two Upazilla Health Complex.

We motivate and train them so that they can check and follow up.
Our activity is as follows
1. Motivation and TBI
2 . As school children and village people are increasingly consuming more soft food and drinks and very less amount of fruits and vegetables,
we should suggest for changing their food habits towards less consumption of soft food and drinks and more consumption of fruits and vegetables.
3. We have the most tobacco smokers in the world per 1000 people and have a massive tobacco chewing habit which lead to lung cancer (highest in males) and oral cancer (2nd. highest in males).
So we suggest them not to smoke or chew tobacco. And for school children we suggest them not to smoke and chew tobacco in future
4. We also suggest them to improve personal hygiene by washing hands after using toilet and before eating.
We motivate the school children and the tea-garden workers and their family members about the importance of oral health care and relation to other Non-Communicable diseases.
A good number of children and people in our country do not use toothbrush and toothpaste for cleaning their teeth.
Instead, they use Neem sticks and also using charcoal powder with finger.
So in TBI, we suggest them to brush their teeth twice a day.
Before going to sleep and at morning with small headed soft toothbrushes using small amount of fluoride containing toothpaste.

Speech for Oral Health Web Seminar

A very good morning everyone!!
Thank you very much for giving me the platform to say something.
First of all, on behalf of JICA I would like to express our sincere appreciation to all of the participants who are supporting to this project on gHealth Promotion for Regional People by Oral Health Care Specialisth and the representatives/students of Tokushima University.
As you already came to know about the project information and its activities, hence I would not repeat it.
Most probably, many of you especially students do not know about JICA.
I would like to introduce JICAfs activities in the developing countries. JICAfs full form is Japan International Cooperation Agency.
JICA is the worlds largest bilateral aid agency and it works in over 152 countries and regions and has over 100 overseas offices, taking charge of executing Japanfs ODA (Overseas Development Assistants).
JICA has three schemes- i) Technical cooperation ii) ODA loan iii) Grand aid.
And under this grand aid there are i) Disaster Relief ii) Research iii) Corporation through citizen participation iv) and Volunteers.
This Oral Health care project is under the cooperation through citizen participation scheme.
JICA began its operation in Bangladesh immediately after Japan formally recognized the newly independent nation in early 1972.
JICA Bangladesh is not only working in health sector but also in power and energy, transport, disaster management, private sector, education, agriculture, and rural development, governance.
The new global development agenda, SDG (sustainable development goal) aims to ensure universal health coverage.
To achieve the SDG- goal 3, JICA Bangladesh has been supporting Bangladesh government together with other development partners.
Presently, in health sector our priority areas are to develop the nursing sector, especially capacity building of nursing services, non-communicable disease control, maternal and child health improvement, etc by providing technical knowhow, construction of health facilities, equipment procurement.
Along with these areas, JICA is now emphasizing on the ongoing pandemic Covid 19.
We provided PPE for the frontline workers, and contributed in awareness programs, etc.
Our future cooperation depends on the countryfs need and JICAfs priority areas.
Let me also say something about the success of our oral health care project.
Usually in our country most of the child, or you may say people do not brush their teeth twice a day after the meal, but in the project, targeted people came to know and understand and practice these habits on a daily basis.
I think itfs a great success for our project, and if we can spread this kind of activity all over the country our country will be more benefited.
I will not prolong my speech further.
In the end, I would like to convey my heartiest thanks to Prof. Hiro Ito and others for organizing this special platform for our oral health care project.
Please Stay Safe.
